Sundown ranch lion park was started in 1995. Situated in the North West Province close to Rustenburg, Pilanesberg Game Reserve and Sun City Resort.
Sundown ranch lion park currently has 42 lions, including 13 lions under the age of 18 months.
The main purpose and motivation behind our lion park is to bring the lion to the people. Unlike driving through game reserves and looking for lions, here the public will be able to handle small cubs and have their photo taken with them.
Visitors get a guided and informative tour of the lions in the lion park.
On feeding days, visitors can see lions get fed. At the right time of day, visitors can even hear lions roar.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION
We have 101 rooms en suite, each one with air conditioning and TV, and each one overlooking the centrally situated swimming pool, which is in turn situated in a beautifully manicured tropical garden.
Our top-class chefs prepare excellent dishes for all corporate functions, weddings and conferences. Normal meals are served in either the Pilanseburg Restaurant, or the Stage Coach Grill, depending on the number of guests in the hotel at that moment.
CHALET ACCOMMODATION
The chalets are also on these premises, and offer very basic accommodation. There are no air conditioners or T.V.’s. The basic appliances such as a hotplate, small fridge and some crockery and cutlery is usually stocked, together with bedding, but the guest must supply their own towels and food.
ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE
Activities include tennis, squash and horse riding, as well as visiting the lion park. At the lion park there is a well-stocked curio shop, a bar, parking and exciting adventures like boma braais. In addition to this we have recently added Traditional Tswana Dancers, which can be booked extra for a minimal fee.
With the Pilanseberg Game Reserve situated only 12kms from the Ranch, our staff will gladly make bookings on your behalf for their game drives, or will assist you in getting all the information for a hot-air balloon safari, or even an elephant-back safari. The Pilanseberg also offers outdoor adventure activities, comprising quad-biking, day-pigeon shooting, archery or Djembe drumming for corporate team-building groups. This is an extremely popular event. We often have large groups staying for the weekend, participating in a variety of fun activities.
The sport-school was developed recently, and offers sport tournaments as well as training by some of South Africa’s top sportsmen and women. Leadership courses for scholars as well as sports clinics for hockey, basketball, cricket and rugby is offered all year-round.
CONFERENCE FACILITIES
We have five conference rooms inside the hotel that can seat approximately 100 people each. These conference rooms can be converted into one large room, seating 500. The garden conference room can seat between 30 and 50 people.
