Welcome to Ripplemead Guesthouse. Your hosts are Carol-Ann and Alan Blakeway. This beautiful farm has been in the Blakeway family for 4 generations.
The Guesthouse is conveniently situated just 100 m. off the N2, 14km outside Kokstad on the way to Durban or Pietermaritzburg.
Ripplemead is a working farm with a tastefully furnished country guesthouse comprising 4 tastefuly furnished, complete self-catering or bed & breakfast units. Your stay at Ripplemead is sure to be a relaxing and revitalising experience in a truly magnificent setting.
Although it is not a very large farm, 700 hectares in size, it produces large maize crops, lucern, hay, lavender which is a new farming venture, and the small Friesland dairy herd supplies the staff and guests with full cream milk. A special treat for city folk to see the thick layer of cream in their milk jugs each day.
In years gone by, Ripplemead boasted a special award from the S.A. Wool Board, the 'Golden Fleece Shield' for outstanding wool from our prized Merino Ram.
The Swartwater River, all 5 kms. of it, runs through the farm. Hiking along this river is a great experience for the young and elderly. Bass can be caught in the dams.

Description |
|
We are a working farm, so all the usual farm activities such as milking, calving, ploughing, planting and bailing are a must-see for the kids.
The night drives with a seachlight are especially popular with our guests.
Ripplemead has some splendid hiking along 5km of the Swartwater river, with some excellent birding opportunities for the enthusiast.
Fishing of bass and trout are taken seriously at Ripplemead.
There are some glorious snow falls in Winter.
We have four serviced units at your disposal:
"Granny Betty's"
This cottage has a self-catering option with 2 bedrooms and is ideal for families.

Room 2:
Two single beds
Room 3:
(These 2 rooms share a bathroom & toilet)
Fully equipped kitchen, lounge, dining room with DSTV (coffee, tea, milk provided daily. Serviced Daily)
"Lavender & Rose"
Self Catering or Bed & Breakfast.
2 single beds - TV, microwave, kettle, crockery, cutlery, coffee, tea, milk. Fridge.
Ensuite shower and toilet serviced daily.
"Ian's Hut"
Decorated in an African theme, self-catering or bed & breakfast.
Double bed, en suite shower / toilet, microwave, DsTV, kettle, crockery, cutlery, coffee, tea, milk. toiletries. Serviced daily.
Heaters and electric blankets are supplied in winter.
"King Tut" - double bed ensuite shower/toilet unit. Self catering or bed and breakfast option.Dstv, kettle, microwave, tea, coffee, sugar and farm fresh milk daily. Also serviced daily.
There are braai facilities.
The guest house is wheelchair friendly.
